9. How to replace a VGT actuator ?
Below operations all should be by Expert Technician.
1.Actuator Pre-Installation
1.1 Prior to installing an actuator onto a turbocharger, it is necessary to assure that actuator drive gear is in the
correct position to mesh withthe pre-aligned turbocharger sector gear. The pre-installation process should
be conducted electronically.
1.2 When pre-alignment electrical command is initiated, actuator drive gear will move to it's correct rotational pre-position.
1.3 Pre-position turbocharger sector gear by rotating it to location that will allow setting pin to pass through the hole in the
gear and engage in reference hole in bearing housing
2.Actuator Installation
2.1 Once actuator drive gear and turbocharger sector gear have been properly pre-positioned, actuator can be mounted to
turbocharger. Open grease tube supplied with service kit. Apply grease evenly across all teeth of sector gear.
2.2 Hold pre-aligned actuator with fitting face vertical. Insert two of four capscrews in diagonal locations. Position gasket on two
screws using profiled locations to hold gasket in place
2.3 Align actuator and gasket assembly with bearing housing face and engage two screws into bearing housing threads. Insert
two additional fasteners.
10. Do you need to Calibrate your VGT Actuator ?
It's highly important to know that most electronically controlled VGT actuators needs calibration to be done once removed or
replaced. Because the calibration of these actuators is especially for the actuator to decide the range of movement that opens
and closes the vanes of a turbocharger, thus could move the vanes to the right position when the ECM sends commands.
If calibration not carried out, it would be hard for the ECM and VGT actuator to position the vanes to optimize air flow to the
